MIL : Zara still wearing diaper during day time?
Me : Yes
MIL : Aiyo, let her wear her panties without diaper la. Tell her to let you know when she wants to pee or poo
Me : *smiled and shrugged*
She reminds me again and again that her kids were toilet trained from a very young age, and I waited too long to train Zara (MILs are always quick to point out your shortcomings).
Hmm, I listen to the expert, and I won't push Zara as long as she's not ready.
We tried several time to get Zara to sit on the potty, she played with it, stepped on it, walked around carrying it. She'll freeze and say, "Poo Poo." when she's about to poo. If we asked her to sit on the potty, she would say "Don't want. Skat skat". I don't know why.
Because the 2 of us are inseparable at home, she likes to follow me to the toilet and have seen me used the toilet bowl. I told her, "This is big people's potty. Next time Zara become big jie-jie, Zara can use this potty." She normally helps me flush after I'd finished using the toilet. "Fus (Flush)." She would observe closely to see whatever that's being flushed away, "see-see (pee) no more!"
One day, while we were in the toilet, she pointed to the toilet bowl.
Zara : "Poo poo."
Me : "Zara wants to use big people's potty to poo poo?"
Zara : "wang"
I placed her on the toilet bowl, held on to her and started coaxing her with sound effect.
After a few moments of trying, she just said, "No more!" and wanted to get down.
My maid said she did that again last week.
I guess when she's ready, she'll do it, according to her schedule.
hmmm... can't remember at what age I was big-potty-trained, using the adult's loo. but I do remember it being rather scary when the seat hole is so big, I might fall through! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteYou should check out www.pharaohspokerpalace.com
ReplyDeleteThey are giving all players 48% of the casino profits with a share program. And they pay you monthly! All you have to do is play. I think they are also offering a bonus of like 200%. Bill
*imagines having to fish May out*
ReplyDelete*flushes poker Bill down the loo, like how Zara would do..*
Poor Zara!! She really gets to flush your toilet _after_ you've used it?!!
Every child is different. I think what you're doing is fine. Wait till she's ready. My boy was still wearing diaper until two years old. But he would ask to poo poo cos he was put on the potty from 6 months old. Now, I still let him wear diapers to school. :P Cos sometimes he doesn't say he wants to pee.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh!!! Potty training!!!!
ReplyDeleteI only remember one thing about Ophelia's potty training - I mopped the floor ALOT! I washed her panties and pants ALOT! I washed the bedclothes ALOT! OMG!!!!
Surprisingly (I'm still in shock actually), she was nearly 100% toilet trained in 2 weeks time. We just gritted our teeth and mopped and washed and cleaned etc etc etc.
ya i agree with you..she'll be ready when the time comes
ReplyDeleteNo worries, no worries, when Zara is ready, she'll automatically be ready.
ReplyDeleteI remembered the day when Destinee was ready, I taught her in one day only (and dat was when she was about 2 years and 2 mths old) - making sure dat she sits on her potty every hour at the beginning. After dat, automatically she would tell me she wanted to 'shi shi' or 'ng ng' whenever she felt like it. Even in the nite, I carried her to the potty to 'shi shi' every now and then.
U bet it was no easy job.
Send her to MILs without a diaper and see what tune she sings.
ReplyDeleteHaven't even thought of potty training Kt. He tells me after he's pooped, so that I can clean him up though.
ReplyDeleteI remember when Hy was off diapers initially, she looked so cute when she pee-pee on the floor. She'd just stand there in a pool of pee-pee, not move (she knows the marble floor is slippery when wet) and holler "MOMMIIIEEEEEE"... Looks like I'll be hearing and seeing that again soon..
I totally agree with your way! :) My friend was the same. She said it's so much easier to just let them do it when they are ready... instead of forcing them to learn to do it when they are not ready! Way to go mom!
ReplyDeleteyea.. my MIL told me the same thing..sigh.. the expert says they will be ready when they are..we dun have to rush them...just have to be patient ...Ryan is 2 years and 3 months now..still wearing pampers....hehehe...he knows how to say "orr see" "orr neww" (cantonese) but he doesn't like to sit on the potty..
ReplyDeleteTrust yourself and your own mothering instinct like you are doing. When she's ready, you'll know. :)
ReplyDeleteLyon refuse to poo or pee in potty too, what we did was carry her & she do her business, while the potty was under (not sit) her! Sound funny hor, but we believe slowly she will accept the potty.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time she'll tell when she want to pee or poo, so we just take out the potty & let her do her business!
Same old story, MIL urged for Grace to be trained early. Girl was forced a little too early. Result? She had diapers on at night till 5. Nightmare for us usually, changing mattresses at night.
ReplyDeleteFor Faith, I was lazy and started at 2 half. Result? Trained in 2 weeks. No leaks at all after that.
they have a special kind of kiddy seat to be placed above the adult toilet bowl. natalie loves it very much, cos it's cushioned and have colourful pics on them.
ReplyDeleteit is true that when they're ready, it's the best time to introduce the potty.
natalie was showing signs of it, so we trained her for a week. and just before she turned 2, she was fully potty trained.
i got mine trained at 11 months. after she pangjio a few times without the diapers, she felt phai seh and that was when she took the intiative to use the potty. same goes for the chut chut thao..she phai sehh when she was a baby used the pacifier in the clinic and after that she din want to use it anymore
ReplyDeleteit seems that when my son is my parents' home (they let him wear his pants only)... he knows how to tell people when he wanna pee or poo (once in a while he will forget)... but when we put him on diapers at home... he will tend to forget more often to inform us :)
ReplyDeleteSesame,
ReplyDeleteI think it's good for him to wear his diaper to school. Being in a new environment, he may not want to request to go to the washroom.
I remembered when I was working in this centre for pre-schooler, kids pee-ed and pooped in their pants because they didn't ask to go to the toilet, and then too embarassed to come back for lessons.. Poor them.
The Diva,
I have to remember that. There'll be lots of mopping, washing and cleaning ahead.. hmm looks like 2 weeks is pretty standard huh for them to be trained when they are ready?
Mom2Ashley,
Thanks. :P
Jasmine,
All the little monkeys also like to play with potties huh? :P
You ask Daddy to train loh. :P
Tracy,
The Diva told me it's not easy, you also told me it's not easy. I'll remember, it's not easy. But I hope it'll be short like the 2 of you.. 2 weeks!
Simple American,
I like your suggestion!! Let me do that the next time we go over to her place! *evil grin*
Kat,
Zara tells us after she's pooped too. And if she peed esp she's all naked waiting to take her shower, she'll stand in her pool and scream too.. but not to call me.. Funny. :P
Erika,
Thank you.
Gene,
Zara says Poo Poo, or Shee Shee too, but only in the midst of doing that. :P Too late to do anything but just to clean them up.
Mumsgather,
Ahh.. if only I have a MIL with your mindset. :P
Jesslyn,
She'll do it without her diaper? Zara won't.. She'll tell us she's going to poo poo, but she prefers to hold on to me (like a hug) and poo while she's standing up. :P
Mother Superior,
another reason not to listen to your MIL. Haha.
Byrdie,
Yeah, I guess I have to invest in one which is comfortable for her, then she'll be motivated to use it.
Ah, Natalie is also trained within a week or two huh? Lots of cleaning up to do?
KY,
ReplyDeleteYou are right about getting them to sit on potty at a younger age, so they will accept it, especialy for doing their big business.
Zara had a routine, by siting on a special chair, we didn't get her to sit on a potty, because she just wanted to stand up e.time we tried to sit her down. :( We didn't exert that, so a bit late to do that now especially she can easily just stand herself up now. :(
Siao Char Bor,
Wow.. your girl is good huh? So fast weaned of chut-chut and potty trained.
Zara still sucking thumb.. but when I tell her shame shame, she'll pull it out. :P
Egghead,
Wah.. you little prince really know how to bully you and J. Haha.
My Mil never pressured me...hehe...she trains bb herself. :)
ReplyDeleteHey that's a good start already, she has interest in using the adults potty.
*sigh*... is like tht wan lar, I got my mom and MIL nagging me before, in the end I tell two of them "you come and do it for me, otherwise don't tell me what to do anymore." *geram*
ReplyDeletereally lor, when the toddler ready, they will show the sign, all we need to do is just pay more attention to them, then we will know when it is, very simple thing, why have to stress ourself every half an hour to put the toddler on potty.
Mom did a great job toilet training Ethyl...It has been many weeks that she goes out without diapers on in the day (with mom around).
ReplyDeleteI was too lazy to bring her to the loo, so whenever Mom isn't around, I would wear diapers for her.
Even with her diapers, she will sometimes tells us she needs to pee.
Key thing here is not to force zara to the potty...they might get so upset and refused to budge.
Domestic Rat,
ReplyDeleteI do give her rewards, but she hasn't used the potty even once.. so no reward there yet. :(
Geetha,
So far, she has no complain, and her skin too..
Yeah, I wonder why they are afraid of potties.
Shoppingmu,
That's how my MIL trained her kids.. and she said I should do it like that too.. forget it la..
That's not training, that's just trying to get lucky. :P
I'll let her do it when she's ready.
Allyfeel,
Your MIL do the action.. my MIL use her mouth.. Aigh.. in the beginning wanted to leave Zara at her plc with my maid, she wasn't very happy with the arrangement. Luckily King's Wife offered to have Zara at her place.. or else, I'll have big headache.
That's why I don't quite want to listen to her teaching me how to bring up my kid, you don't want to participate, now don't ah-chi ah-chor la.
Maria,
OK.. next time I'll tell my MIL that too if she asked me again.. Hmmph!
Blurblur, Fannie,
Both of you so lucky.. got mummy around to train them. That's the best arrangement actually, to have your own mum looking after your kids.. I'm so envious!
cleaning up? heh heh... my mom did it.
ReplyDeletenatalie is born a 'clean freak'. she just doesn't like paint or dirt or anything alien to be on her hands. she'd insist that i wipe it off.
because of these, she potty trained herself rather quickly... seriously, she hated the feeling of pee streaking down her legs... hehehe...
You can get the smaller seat to put on the adult toilet for her to sit. I have 1 of those and Emily love it.
